Summer Family Bike Rides With Brompton and Dahon Folding Bikes
With this year’s wild summer weather, we’ve been trying to get some bike rides in when we can. In July, we had forest fire smoke, a heat wave, thunderstorms and even a couple of localized tornadoes (which is not typical). I know we’re not the only ones experiencing severe weather changes. Coupled with a El Nino year, July was the hottest month globally in recorded history.
When there is a nice day with stable weather, we try to go out for a bike ride together. Everyone feels better being out and active.
(Photo above): I’m using the Utility Tote in custom midnight blue and orange. Christian is using the Roll-Top Bag, I made him, in olive green and yellow.
We have 4 folding bikes. Two are Brompton and two are Dahon Vybe, which Christian modified to fit the boys. They all fit in the trunk of our small car, so we can explore different parts of the city.
Ottawa has extensive bike paths all over the city. Since we are leisure riders, bike paths are the most enjoyable. In the summer, certain roadways in the city are closed for walking and biking. This makes it especially great to ride safely with kids.
This is my first time going to the Quebec side for biking. You literally just cross one of the adjoining bridges, in downtown, and you’re in another province! I thought the Ottawa side was really beautiful, but this side is very nice.
I hope you liked the few photos I compiled of our bike rides. I love to walk and bike, so I’ll be posting more about these local adventures. Have a good summer. -Cat
