By now you’ve seen a few different versions of the Utility Tote that I’ve made. What’s different about this one is the colour and addition of a shoulder pad. This one is custom made for McKenzie, in Seattle, who wanted the bag to be all charcoal grey (I haven’t made an all grey bag since I was pregnant ). She also has some shoulder and neck pain, so she wanted an added shoulder pad.
Seattle is only about 2.5 hours drive south of Vancouver and the weather is pretty similar. West coast weather is mild, but it does rain a fair bit throughout the year. McKenzie liked that this bag is made out of water resistant waxed canvas and has a full zipper top to keep her belongings dry while secure.
I used the same brown cowhide leather for the shoulder pad as the strap. I thought that making it 3″ wide would be appropriate for the shoulder and for the size of this bag. I hand stitched 2 layers of the leather using a waxed nylon thread.
As usual, I always like my bags to have interior pockets for organization. This one has 2 water bottle pockets and 2 large pockets. It’s good to put your everyday needs, for travel or as a diaper bag.
