Winter Break and New Year 2024 in Montreal

Happy New Year. Winter school break extended into the first week of January, so it gave us a chance to take a short trip to Montreal.

I made this Field Bag for Christian as a Christmas gift. He really liked taking a small bag around, with just his personal belongings. This is an updated version of one I used to make, a few years back, and will have it in the online shop soon.

It’s been an unusual winter with no snow on the ground (an El Nino year). We took this opportunity to see the last of the Christmas lights in Montreal. I find it amazing that so many lights and decorations are put up each year; the countless hours of work to put them up for everyone’s enjoyment.

Beautiful Christmas lights at Philips Square in central Montreal. Behind it is the Hotel Birks Montreal.

It looks like a lot of people are still off from work and school. It’s the most quiet I’ve seen this city.

Even though there’s no snow, it’s still -12c outside. We went to Chinatown to Restaurant Pho Bac to have pho (Vietnamese beef noodle soup) and spring rolls. They’re my favourites and especially good on a cold day. It was our first time there and we were so happy with this lunch.

This was a nice winter getaway, but I’m ready to get back to routine and work. Hope you have a great start to the year. -Cat
