In 2013, I designed the Medium Zipper Tote wanting the perfect size bag with interior pockets for organization, made out of natural materials. My thinking then was very simplistic. I thought others may want the same thing because most bags didn’t have any pockets and I saw many people digging through their stuff.
Work and travel customers liked what I was doing, but wanted specific customizations for their needs. I didn’t think about custom work, but I started getting more and more bespoke requests. Many of the most requested customizations can now be ordered from the shop, like custom colours, backpack straps, luggage strap and personalization.
4 Years Later
In 2017, Christian got into mechanical keyboards and wanted a case for it. He told me there’s nothing good out there for them. I didn’t know much about keyboards, but I was definitely interested in making something useful to carry them in.
If you’re like me and didn’t know anything about them, Christian explained that the people who use them have very specific needs. The main thing is that people use their keyboards a lot and if one key is broken, the whole keyboard is useless. With these, you can replace the key if one is broken. I was 100% onboard when I heard this because it pains me that things are cheaply made and thrown out when one thing goes wrong.
In 2022, Christian and I purchased Brompton folding bikes because we wanted to start biking again and wanted to be able to take it everywhere with us. Of course, I started thinking about Brompton compatible bags that I can make and so this part of the business started.
I still love doing this. I love designing the items, the feel of the lightly wax canvas, the process and seeing the finished item. It never gets old. Thank you very much for your interest and keeping this micro-design business going. -Cat
