Modern Coup Notes: July Journal (2025)

It has been a very hot July in Ottawa. We had many days of 30+ degrees celsius (40+ with the humidity). We usually try to go out for walks and rides in the morning, when it’s slightly cooler. Then I’ll be in the studio working in the afternoon.

I specially made these waistpacks for the boys. I made them smaller ones before, but now they need slightly bigger ones for their wallets and phone.

I like to wear a waistpack for my walks, too. This one is regularly available in the shop.

One of my favourite things to do is to go on long walks. Even in the morning, the heat made it difficult to go too far. Sometimes it’s only for 30 minutes.

People in Ottawa are really active. Here residents are enjoying jet skiing and paddle boarding on the Rideau Canal. Kayaking is also a very popular activity.

For me, I love to ride my Brompton bike around. The boys had Spanish class in the morning for July. I would often ride with them there and stop by different spots on my way home.

I usually bring my Brompton compatible Medium Zipper Tote, just in case I need to carry anthing.

On days when the heat has just been accumulating, the clouds are dark and low. It’s a sign that it will thunderstorm soon and we have to get back.
