Online School Is Out and Enjoying Summer In Ottawa

Online school has been out for about a month now (thank goodness). We were lucky that we had this option in our province of Ontario, Canada. The amount of screen time though was concerning. Anyhow, it’s over and we are trying to make the most of the nice weather.

I made these bike handlebar pouches for the boys as a year end present. I was a little surprised at how much they liked them. They even attached them to their scooters, which I didn’t think about when I made them.

First time in Hog’s Back Falls

We have lived in Ottawa for almost 2 years now, but we really have only been to a handful of places. The last 16 months have had Covid restrictions. In fact, only last month have we been able to go outside of our neighbourhood for non-essential reasons.

A waterfall in the middle of the city. Hog’s Back Falls is about 7 kms south of downtown Ottawa.
Boardwalk at the Chapman Mills Conservation Area (about 18 kms south of downtown Ottawa)

It has been nice to be outdoors and do a little exploring. The summers in Ottawa are hot. We usually start our day early to avoid the afternoon heat (with 2 young kids, we are always up early anyway). Everyone is happier when we’re out; a new place to see, fresh air, walking, running, biking or scootering.

On a walk, we were so lucky to find a raspberry bush. We haven’t encountered many in Ottawa. They were really nice and sweet.

We found this lovely wooden art house someone made during a walk in the woods.

I hope you’re having a good summer so far. We have all had a difficult year or so and summer could not have come at a better time. I hope you’re feeling the warmth of the sun and enjoying life’s simple pleasures. -Cat
