Working On New Online Shop For Bags and Specialty Cases

Mechanical Keyboard Cases. Beautiful North American sourced bridle leather pulls in cognac.

Most of you who have visited this blog or my online shop know that I make custom bags. However, you may not know that for the last 3 years, I have also been running a separate shop selling specialty cases (mainly mechanical keyboard cases).

It began as a custom request from my husband, Christian, who wanted a case for his keyboard. At the time, I thought it was one of the strangest requests. He explained some things to me about them, mainly that they are specialty keyboards where the keys can be customized to the user’s preference and with the keys being separately attached, if one key fails it can be replaced. As with conventional keyboards, which most of us are accustomed to, if one key fails the whole keyboard is unfortunately, garbage. That makes me cringe as I dislike things that can only be used for a short while and get disposed of. To plead his case (you see, he doesn’t pay for any of the custom bags and cases I make him), he said there really isn’t a nice way to carry these around. When he said that, a portion of my brain (the bag design lobe) got excited. When I see a need and it involves something to carry it…I’m in. He then posted it on Reddit and people were asking about buying one. We decided to make it and sell it as a group buy and in the first 10 days, we got about 300 orders, I think. I was absolutely stunned and from then on, these cases have been keeping me busy, which I am so grateful to this enthusiastic community.

Custom Bags I usually make. This one is a Large Zipper Tote with backpack straps.

Fast forward 3 years, I started getting inquiries from the cases customers about the bags I make. I kept the shops separate because what the customers were looking for were quite specific. Now, I feel that it is the time for them to converge and for me to have a website that is more cohesive for all work the work that I do. I’ve got Christian on this side of things, as he has tech experience ( I know…now I can get him to work off all the bags and cases I’ve made him). I’m excited, but at the same time a lot of things have to be done for this to happen. It is just us 2 running the business and that’s the way I like it. This will take some time, but I think in the long run it would be best to run one online shop.

Here are a few other cases that I’ve made. I really like making these and seeing them in all the different custom colours customers have chosen.
