This is a bag that I made for Rachel in Charlottesville, Virginia. She liked The Satchel, but to make it her perfect bag, she wanted to add custom hand-held handles. This was a simple request. I added 4″ drop leather handles (same ones that I have on the Utility Totes.) With the leather handles, it looks like a whole different bag. It looks to me like a small briefcase.
I designed the Satchel to be a cross between a purse and a small messenger bag. It’s utilitarian, but also feminine.
The Satchel has 2 outside front pockets and 2 interior organizing pockets. I lined the bags with a tanned coloured cotton twill, a sturdy and appropriate textile for bags.
The exterior fabric is made out of a lightly waxed water resistant canvas. A proprietary blend of wax is coated onto this cotton canvas giving it the water resistant property. The family producing this premium textile has been doing so since the 1830’s.
Here are some detailed shots of the bag.
- I use heavy duty nylon thread throughout, where the stress points are double and triple stitched.
- Solid and antique brass hardware is used throughout the bag.
- The straps are made of a very nice Italian vegetable tanned leather.
- As usual, I like to use full zippers on the bag for security.
Bag: 13 inches W x 9 H x 3 D (33 cm wide x 23cm high x 8cm deep)
Strap: Adjusts from 35″ (89cm) to 46″ (117cm)
